I tried to.install DJIs virtual drone app on my DJI smart controller but it won’t fit due to not enough memory. If I add memory to the controller will the app installation use it or will it only be available for photos and videos

You just need to delete unneeded files to free up some space. Check out this thread from the DJI forum for some files others have been deleting to resolve the same issue:
