Hey, looking for some water tips. Going to Maine for a couple weeks R&R. Had a phantom years back, had a spark times two, now picked up a mini three, it seems decent for the price and basic video and pictures is what I’m after. I picked up some filters for the lens, and was told it helps when you’re over the water. Looking for any pointers when it comes to glare or backlighting or merely flying out over the ocean. Here are some things to keep in mind when flying over the ocean:

An ND/PL filter can definitely help reduce glare and reflections on the water, especially on bright sunny days. Just be aware that the effect changes depending on the angle between the drone, the sun, and the water, so you may need to experiment with different filters to get the look you’re after.

Whenever possible, try to keep the sun behind your drone or off to the side. Shooting directly into the sun can make it much harder to capture detail and can increase glare.

The wind is often much stronger over the ocean than it feels on shore, especially as you get farther out. Be sure to leave yourself plenty of battery for the return trip.

If you’re flying from a beach, give yourself a little extra altitude before heading out over the water. It gives you more time to react if something unexpected happens.

Stay clear of any birds flying nearby. They can sometimes become territorial and may attack your drone.
