My first drone.

Hello all.

I am a complete newbie to drone flying although i do have some exp in heli flying.

I have just brought the dji 4k.

I am still unboxing more or less and these 3 batteries are taking an age to charge. Meanwhile i am trying to do some research on how to use it.

I have flown a friends briefly(same model)

So controls etc are fine.

I am currently on holiday and was hoping to just unbox and get some good coast footage.

It seems a bit more complicated than that.

Am i right in thinking i have to do a drone driving test online first and a 1 year pilots licence thingie for ÂŁ12.34 before i can use it.

And wait for a user id label to arrive to stick on my drone?

Im also struggling to find the correct app for my andriod phone to connect to my remote. For the camera view.

There are about 500 qr codes in the box but none seem to direct me to the app i need.

It all seems a bit confusing to get started to be honest. I just want open the box and fly it:thinking:

Any help would be appreciated thanks jonesy

I am si surprised when folks ask for help and do not give much usable information, like where are you located… Your reference to “£12.34” and the word “holiday” hints that you are a Brit, but the various separate countries with in (Britain, Great Britain, the British Isles, what ever your preference may be…) do not all fly under the same rules… BritExit made that happen…

But here is where the quandary lies…

All of these Countries and territories that share the “£” symbol include: Egypt (Egyptian pound); Lebanon (Lebanese pound); Sudan (Sudanese pound); South Sudan (South Sudanese pound); Syria (Syrian pound);

Additionally, several British territories and Crown Dependencies use the ÂŁ symbol for their local currencies: Gibraltar (Gibraltar pound); Falkland Islands (Falkland Islands pound); Saint Helena & Ascension (Saint Helenian pound); Guernsey, Jersey, and the Isle of Man.

Gee that was fun, So if you really want someone to help, as the old expression goes: “God helps those who help themselves…”

So, where in the world is “Waldo?”

As for the drone… here is the Link to the User Manual…

Hi J,

With a name like Jonesy, that sounds like UK, first “Don’t panic”

I’ve been flying a long time, but I still feel like a beginner, so I fly where I can see, and try to fly where you can go and find it if it crashes. I’ve not flown over water yet.

Do you only use your phone or do you have a separate controller?

I think that if it’s under 250g, you don’t need a licence, but someone will clarify, I’m sure.

Enoy it,

C.

These are called “Famous Last Words…”

If you are in the UK, then these rules and laws apply as specified by…

https://www.caa.co.uk/drones/

Essential CAA Registrations & Tests:…

Flyer ID: Required if you are flying a drone that weighs 100g or more. You must take a free online theory test and pass with at least 30 out of 40 questions. The Flyer ID is valid for 5 years.

Operator ID: Required if your drone weighs 250g or more, or if you fly a camera-equipped drone weighing between 100g and 249g. You must be 18 or older to get an Operator ID.

Labeling: You must label your drone visibly with your Operator ID before flying.

Task: Complete your registrations and tests directly on the UK Civil Aviation Authority portal.

But hey, if you are there in the UK, and they catch you breaking the law, you usually only loose yoru drone and spend only a short time in Jail… :joy:
