Mavic 2 Pro Gimbal Roll Arm

Hi there,

New here, so hope I follow all the rules and etiquette correctly!

For some months I’ve been getting a Gimbal Motor Overload error sproadically when flying my Mavic 2 Pro. The gimbal goes a bit mad for a moment and then corrects itself and I can continue flying it. I’ve tried blowing/brushing around the gimbal in case dirt is in there (I fly a lot in sandy environments so sand/dust could well be the culprit) but that hasn’t improved the situation.

Unfortunately the country I spent most of my time in doesn’t take kindly to drones being taken in and out of the country so I don’t have the option to send it away to be looked at by a professional.

I’m quite handy with taking things apart myself but would appreciate some advice. On examination, the gimbal arm on one side seems to have a gap which does not appear on the other side. Could this be the cause of my gimbal motor overload error, and does anyone know what could be causing this gap? Would a replacement gimbal roll arm be likely to solve the issue? If anyone has any advice from experience before I start breaking this down to investigate further I’d be very grateful. I’m attaching some photos from each side so you can see what I mean.

Thanks a lot, and happy flying!

Sarah

Welcome from the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, USA.

I cannot offer much advice, but I would keep trying make sure that there is no accumulation of dust in and around the gimbal assembly, especially the joints. Use a pressurized air can with a nozzle and be gentle anywhere other than the joints. Always use a landing pad, even taking off or landing on a paved street in fraught with dust and if you are out in the field (desert) hand catching is probably best.

YouTube has lots of videos on working on your drone…

Good Luck and Enjoy!

Have you ever crashed your drone? It looks like the gimbal roll arm might be bent.
