Flying phantom 3 pro with iPhone X

I just got a phantom 3 pro for cheap and I’m trying to connect it to the app to get camera view, I got the old app from dji website but it won’t connect. The drone can still fly but I can’t access the camera.

I am using an IPhone X and it doesn’t appear in the compatible devices, do I need to find a old phone for it to work or can I use something like litchi ?

Did you try the current “DJI GO” app available in the Apple app store?

still the same with the app from the apple app store, other fixes i tried :

  • iphone 6s
  • some old androids (they were charging but nothing else)
  • I updated the firmware of the drone but i can’t do it on the remote, I plug the usb with the .bin file in it, turn it on but nothing happends

The iPhone X should be okay to use. I used it myself back when that was the current iPhone.

The remote controller firmware can only be updated from DJI GO as documented here.

The problem is that I can’t access camera view in the app, I plug the remote and the phone but nothing happens. It is written on the documentation u sent me that I can only update through a sd card up to version 1.3.20.
It sounds like a really old version but do I have any other choices ?

How are you attempting to plug the remote and phone? What kind of cable are you using?

Are you referring to this note in the documentation?

“Important: If you’re currently using a firmware version older than 1.3.20, then you must install 1.3.20 first before installing a newer version of the firmware. 1.3.20 needs to be installed on your remote controller and batteries.”

This documentation is very detailed and must be followed exactly. If you skip any steps or don’t follow the instructions exactly, your firmware likely won’t update as expected.

Are you sure the drone and remote controller are in working order? For example, did you possibly buy a drone that was being “sold for parts”.

I am using a usb A to Lightning cable, the same that I use to charge my phone, so I need a specific one ?

I’m referring to this part of the documentation « If you’re installing a firmware version greater than 1.3.2, then you must install it from the DJI GO app (go back to step #14above) ». I’m saying that if I can’t connect to the DJI go app maybe I can try to downgrade the firmware to the last version that I can upgrade using a sd card.

The drone was advertised as working, the drone flies well and I got the original box, the stabiliser works and the drone does looks in good shape. The only problem is that I can’t connect using the DJI go app to access the camera.

That’s the correct cable. However, you need to be sure you’re not using a charge-only cable.

If it’s an OEM Apple cable, then you’re good. If you’re not sure it’s a charge-only cable, then try connecting your iPhone to a computer with that cable. If you can browse the files on the iPhone, then it’ll work with the remote controller.

That’s likely being caused by one of these things:

  • You don’t have the correct app instead (e.g. you’re using “DJI GO 4” instead of “DJI GO”).
  • You’re using a charge-only or damaged cable
  • The USB-A port is damaged on the remote controller (not a common issue)

I tried the cable on my computer and i can access the photos, also tried multiple cables with different phones. I see the “DJI GO 4” app that you are talking about but i got the right one “DJI GO”.

I tried a lot of fixes i saw online but none of them work, I might have to sell it for parts

Are you able to ask the seller if it was in working order? Or maybe even return it to the seller if it was sold as working and you’re not beyond the return period.

Seller said in the ad that it was working before but needed a firmware update to work again, I tried to relink the rc with the aircraft manually with C1 + C2 + record button + video button, got it flashing blue then pressed the small button next to led on aircraft. They linked and I can fly it but still no app connection. However the rc is now flashing red and green pretty fast.

So, then it sounds like you purchased a drone that was confirmed by the seller as non-functional.

Yeah sounds like it, i’ll maybe sell it as is or keep for parts if there are no other solutions

The documentation I shared above is the only way to update the firmware. If you’re sure you followed the instructions exactly, then you might be facing some kind of faulty firmware issue.

When buying in the future, be wary of any cheap deals that claim you “just need to fix X” to get everything in working order. Those are probably red flags for buying known broken equipment.

I will try to sell it or keep it for parts, anyways thanks for the help
