I usually don’t have time to enjoy flying my Mini 2, but I took some time today to fly it and it was horrible. The video was lagging while the signal was strong. The weird thing is that all of a sudden the signal went from Great to poor immediately and randomly. I was flying about a 30-40ft radius around my house. I could not figure it out, because the signal was good and video lag and froze. In other instances the same happened, but signal went low and disconnected. I could not correlate the signal to the video lag, since it lagged while it had great signal. Not sure if this is a firmware issue like I read in other posts about heavy lagging. App Version is 1.15.4, RC Firmware is 04.11.0400.
I also have a Mini 2 and I am flying those same two versions, App Version is 1.15.4, the RC Firmware is 04.11.0400, and additionally the Aircraft Firmware is 01.07.0200. And all of these versions are the latest updates.
I am not experiencing any of the lagging or video freezing as you mentioned, nor have I had any issues with lost or weak signal.
I cannot advise you concerning the weak signals but be sure your MicroSD card in your mini 2 is not getting filled up with old videos and photos.
And check to see if you are running out of resources on your device (phone or tablet). The Fly App needs a lot memory and processor power and if your device is running a lot of background apps and the memory is used up with downloaded data (photos, music, etc…), this might affect you.
The fly App on your device can only use main memory and even if your device has a monster size MicroSD card in it, then clean out the main memory and save your files onto the MicroSD Card.
I have to do some more testing, but I think it might be interference with the Wifi signal. Going to try 5GHz band instead of auto. I recently added 3 wifi mesh devices and that might have caused more interference. I have the Android OnePlus 12 phone with 12gb of ram and 256gb storage and should be able to handle the DJI app very well. The SD card on the drone is 128gb endurance card. I would have to see if the lagging is happening while recording only and tried the 5GHz band only. I’ll check tomorrow and reply back. Thank you for replying and giving me some feedback.
The mini 2 does not use WiFi except to perform Quick Transfers and never while flying.**
**Did you check the recording to see if there is actually lagging in the video. Even with a girth of ram in the phone, ensure there are not a gaggle of applications running in the background. You might even need to go into Setup, Applications, and “Force Stop” all the applications running, even putting the phone into AirPlane Mode. If you have not performed a format on the microSD in the drone in a while, and you have saved any files there, I would recommend a Format…
I switch to the 5.8ghz and it the problem went away. I notice it was on the 2.4 frequency and there was too much interference. There is another issue I am having and I am guessing it has to do with the age of the batteries. When the battery is down to maybe the 50-55% it starts the request to come back home even though I am not too far from the home location. I would understand requesting the return home if it calculated that I was far away from the home location and it needed the charge to come back to the home point. But if I am around a 10-20 ft radius, i would not expect it to request the return home until it is 10-20% low battery. Also the batteries are not lasting long… I have to pay attention the flight time with the full charge, but it seems like its draining fast. The batteries are 21/2 years old… But I have not flown the drone that often. Maybe 40 times total since I bought it on May 2022.
I am glad that the switch to 5Ghz solved the problem, does that issue persist when you are flying an another location, or do you do all your flying in one general location?
My Mini 2 batteries (3 of them) are pushing 3-years old and I have about a hundred charges on each one and the drone has about 100-miles on it… My batteries still give me about 20-plus minutes of flying time without any issues, nor does the drone going into RTH mode.
The RTH on my drone mode kicks in at about the 20% battery capacity mark which indicates abut 5-minutes of flying time.
I had an issue once at a park when a couple of dog walkers were letting their dogs run off leash and I was running low on battery power (canceled the RTH and had about 10% battery power left…). The Dogs were taking and “un-natural” interest in the drone and I did not want a confrontation with the dogs or the walkers, so I “took the dogs for a run…”
I flew low enough to tease the dogs then I flew away slow enough for the dogs to chase the drone. The dogs chased the drone for a few hundred feet and then I flew straight up and the dogs lost sight of the drone and the lost interest, leaving the dogs a long way from the owners. The owners had to run to catch the dogs and I flew my drone back safely and landed without worrying if the dogs would try to snatch it… That explains my habit of not running the batteries down when flying; you never know when an “emergency” might occur…
When I charge my batteries, I usually stop the charging soon after the blinking charge lights start flashing all 4-lights so my batteries do not get fully charged.
The Return to Home will only function if the drone is over 20-meters (60-feet or so) from the launch point and I have never flown my drone until the battery is completely dead, but from what I have read, the drone would simply just land wherever it might be. If you test it, make sure you are not over any “dangerous” locations (trees, water, roads, buildings, etc…). And make sure there are no people around as you will not be able to control its decent.
I charged the batteries and flew the Mini 2 today. Batteries seem good. I flew today just to test batteries flying time and the flight lasted around 23-25 minutes. One battery has 54 charge cycles and the other had 67. I guess they are still in good shape… I noticed it wanted to return home at about 50% battery charge and the problem was the return home altitude. I just got a new phone and I guess all the settings were reset. The altitude was set to 1,600 ft. and I changed it to 180 ft. and now it asks to return home around 20%. I also replaced the front end propellers, because one had some damage from a previous landing. I guess I am good now and I appreciate all the help, thank you.
