DJI accounts

Some time ago, I purchased a used DJI drone through an outlet store. At that time, DJI allowed a drone to be unlinked from the previous owner’s account when the new owner provided proof of purchase and a letter from the retailer confirming the legitimate acquisition of the device. I complied with those requirements and understood that this was the established procedure.

However, DJI has now changed its policy and requires the previous owner to request the account unbinding. In many cases, including mine, locating that individual is simply impossible, especially when the product was purchased through an outlet, liquidation sale, or reseller.

What I do not understand is why, after I have clearly demonstrated that I legally purchased the drone, DJI believes it has the right to maintain restrictions on property that I legally own. If I have provided valid proof of purchase and lawful ownership, on what basis am I being prevented from fully using a product that I acquired in good faith?

At no point did I grant DJI the authority to indefinitely maintain control over a product that I legally purchased. While I understand the need for anti-theft and security measures, those measures should not penalize legitimate buyers or leave them dependent on contacting individuals whom they have no reasonable way of locating.

The Reason for this is a firm security measure to stop stolen drones from simply being reset and resold. It also helps DJI comply with strict civil aviation and national security regulations regarding the ownership and traceability of unmanned aircraft systems.

With the millions of DJI drones sold, far too many fell victim to theft and fraud… Stolen drones were being “reassigned to the ‘New Owner’ by a simple email.” Many of the owners who lost their drones did not think about reporting the theft and the DJI unwittingly transferred ownership to the thieves, making them an unwittingly complicit to the theft…

And then there were cases when the “Owner” sold the drone and did not unbind it and if the new owner wanted it unbound, they had to pay an additional fee for the unbinding…

Yes, that’s right. Unfortunately, I’m one of those who bought a drone from a previous owner who didn’t do things properly. I did everything I could with DJI, but they didn’t give me the option to pay any extra fee to unlock the drone. Do you know where I can do that?

As far as I know yu have no options…

First, I would ask if the drone operates normally or is it fling with the 20-meter restriction? If it is operating normally I would leave it alone and enjoy it… However, in the past, some updates to the DJI Fly App has caused the drone to lose its log in credentials and without logging in with the account credentials, you can fly a DJI drone without logging into an account, but your flight is strictly limited to a maximum height of 30 meters (98 feet) and a distance of 50 meters (164 feet). For full capabilities, you need an active account.

I am sorry, but I cannot be of more help…
